Armchair BEA: Introductions

I'm so bummed I didn't make it to BEA, but I'm so excited for Armchair BEA. The next best thing. So here's a few things about me and my blog. Can't wait to meet you all!

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? My name is Hannah. My nicknames are Hannah Banana and Little Tomato. I hate bananas and tomatoes. I was born and rasied in Northern Minnesota. I travel any chance I get, but my heart will always be in the Midwest. I have a BA in English Literature from Minnesota State University and I'm currently working on my MA in Literature from Saint Louis University. Over the course of my studies I began reading YA lit to take breaks from reading the heavy stuff and I quickly became addicted. I started blogging so I could talk about the books I read and so I could remember what I was reading. Next week I will have been blogging for one year, and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

2. What are you currently reading? I'm reading Velveteen by Daniel Marks. It's absolutely stunning. It's taking me forever to read because I keep needing to make notes and write down quotes.

3. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you. I grew up on a seasonal fishing resort. My parents bought the resort a year before I was born and sold it when I was 10. I spent my summers scooping minnows, cleaning cabins, raking beaches, playing pool, swimming, playing house on pontoons, and hanging out at bonfires and roasting marshmallows.

4. What is your favorite feature on your blog? Secondary Character Saturday! I started this meme a couple months ago and I'm loving it. There are so many great secondary characters out there and they don't always get the time and attention they deserve. So I set aside one day a week to talk about some of those characters and their importance. If you'd like to join me in this meme, I would be thrilled.

5.  What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years? I don't even know where to start. I love this community so much - and it begins and ends with the fact that everyone loves books, stories, and words. I love that there's now a place readers can go to talk about what they're reading. It's no longer a solitary activity. I so appreciate the friendships and the support provided by this community. I've come to a point where I know when certain people gush about a book - that is one I need to read - because I trust in their opinions. The only thing I'd like to see change is the drama - can't we all just love each other? We're all here for the same thing. Peace, love and books.
